Arlington Heights, IL AC Replacement

Understanding When AC Replacement Makes Sense

Determining the right time to replace your air conditioning system requires careful consideration of multiple factors. Generally, air conditioners that have reached 10-15 years of service begin experiencing decreased efficiency and increased repair frequency. Modern AC units operate at significantly higher SEER ratings compared to older models, with current minimum standards requiring 14 SEER in northern climates while many homeowners opt for 16-20 SEER systems to maximize energy savings. If your current system requires repairs exceeding 50% of replacement cost, or if you’re experiencing consistently high energy bills despite regular maintenance, replacement often proves more economical than continued repairs.

We frequently encounter Arlington Heights homeowners dealing with refrigerant-related issues in older systems. R-22 refrigerant, commonly used in AC systems manufactured before 2010, has been phased out due to environmental concerns. The increasing scarcity and cost of R-22 makes repairs on these older systems particularly expensive, often making replacement with modern R-410A equipment the more practical choice. Additionally, newer systems incorporate advanced features such as variable-speed compressors, smart thermostats compatibility, and improved coil designs that deliver superior comfort and efficiency.
